Also known as Samples 14-20, and 309

Where: Japan (34.8° N, 138.0° E)

• Paleocoordinates: 34.6° N, 137.2° E (Wright 2013)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Hijikata Formation (Kakegawa Group), Pliocene (5.3 - 2.6 Ma)

• Overlies the Horinouchi Formation, interbedded with the T-3 tuff layer

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: coastal; lithified, coarse-grained, silty mudstone and tuff

• This formation was said to be deposited on a slope and in a geosynclinal trough in front of the shelf.
• thick bedded mudstone interbedded with T-3 tuff. Figure 1 of paper illustrates this formation as coarse-grained siltstone grading to the southeast into a fine-grained siltstone. This formation grades to the northwest into the fine grained sandstone of the Ukari fm.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils, microfossils

Preservation: original aragonite, original calcite

Collection methods: bulk,

• There were 200-1500 individual forams present in each sample. The number of mollusc individuals per sample is not reported. Forams were extracted from blocks of sediment weighing 1-2kg each.
