S. Elmi corals from the Awragh-Afennourir Syncline (Jurassic of Morocco)

Where: Morocco (33.3° N, 4.9° W)

• Paleocoordinates: 27.0° N, 7.4° E (Wright 2013)

• coordinate estimated from map

When: Levinsoni zone, Late/Upper Toarcian (180.1 - 175.6 Ma)

Environment/lithology: reef, buildup or bioherm; yellow limestone

• The corals collected by S. Elmi were determined to correspond to a reef that was located below areas of wave action, in the photic zone and in mesotrophic waters.
• The bioherms from which the coral samples were collected by S. Elmi were found on top of a layer of yellow bioclastic limestone.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Preservation: recrystallized

Collected by S. Elmi in the 2000s

Collection methods: surface (in situ),

• The genera that were said to be present near the area of discovery, but not collected themselves, were terebratulid brachiopods, as they were present in a bed that was next to the layer of bioclastic limestone, in which the corals were found.
